Ways to help your child with Mathematics:
- Look at numbers that occur all around their environment such as on letter boxes, on pages in books, on signs.
- Play with playdough and make the numeral shapes.
- Ask them to count out items for you such as apples at the supermarket to put into the bag and when setting the table " Can you put out 4 cups and 4 plates, how many is that altogether?"
- Collect and display things that they collect such as shells at the beach, pebbles from the river etc.
- Play "Show me ..." You call out a number and they respond with the finger pattern.
- Involve them in activities such as baking where they are measuring.
- Use mathematic language such as : halves, equal shares, heaviest, long, short, before, after, tallest, more than and less than.
